The short answer
Yes, you can set out of office in Teams on iPhone. Tap your profile picture, tap your current status, choose Out of office, turn on Set auto reply and write your message, then turn on Select your start and end dates to schedule it. Teams syncs it with your Outlook automatic replies.
Can you schedule out of office in Teams mobile?
Yes. Older guides say scheduling is desktop-only, but Microsoft’s current help page has steps for the mobile app: you can set the auto reply and a start and end date and time from your phone. The out of office status shows on your profile and when people message you, and the same message goes out as your Outlook automatic reply.
These steps are for Teams with a work or school account, where out of office is tied to your Outlook mailbox. The personal version of Teams has its own status settings.
Set out of office in the Teams app on iPhone
- Open Teams and tap your profile picture at the top left to open your profile card.
- Tap your current status.
- Choose Out of office.
- Turn on Set auto reply and write your out of office message. People see it when they message you in Teams or open your profile, and it’s sent as your Outlook automatic reply.
- Turn on Select your start and end dates and pick when you’ll be unavailable.
You can also reach the same settings from Set status message on your profile. To end it early, come back here and turn the auto reply off.
Don’t skip the message. Microsoft notes that an out of office message is required to set the status and sync it with your Outlook calendar, so an empty box means no out of office at all.
If you’re at a computer
Teams for desktop has the fuller version: your profile picture, then Set status message, then Schedule out of office. Or go to Settings and moreSettingsGeneral and find the Out of Office section. That screen adds a checkbox to send replies outside your organization.
How Teams out of office syncs with Outlook
Teams and Outlook share one out of office. Once you schedule it in Teams, automatic replies switch on in Outlook with the same dates and message. Change it in Outlook and Teams follows.
That matters because the mobile steps for Teams don’t include the option to reply to people outside your organization. On Teams for desktop that’s a separate checkbox. On your phone, use Outlook instead: in Outlook’s Automatic Replies you can reply to everyone and use a different message for external senders. The steps are in how to set out of office in Outlook on iPhone.
Set a Teams status message that clears itself
Out for an afternoon rather than a week? A status message is lighter than a full out of office, and it doesn’t send email replies.
- Tap your profile picture, then Set status message.
- Type what you want people to see, like “Off today. Back Thursday at 9.”
- Select Show when people message me so people see it when they message or @mention you.
- Use Clear after to choose when it disappears, then tap Done.
Slack works the same way, with its own Clear after: see setting an out of office status in Slack.
Silence Teams on your iPhone with quiet hours
An out of office tells people you’re away. It doesn’t stop your phone buzzing. For that, Teams mobile has quiet hours: tap your profile picture, then Notifications, and under “Block notifications” choose Block during quiet hours. Turn on All day for your days off, or Certain hours for evenings.
You may also see Set on Teams and Outlook, which copies the schedule to your other mobile apps. Read that prompt before you tap: Microsoft says the sync can’t be reversed. Quiet hours don’t change your status, so colleagues won’t know you’re muted unless you set a status message.
Quiet hours repeat by hours and days of the week, so for a one-off trip it’s simpler to turn off Teams notifications in iOS: SettingsNotificationsTeams, then turn off Allow Notifications. The full setup, and its gaps, are in how to set Teams quiet hours on iPhone.
Keep Teams closed while you’re out
Silent or not, Teams still opens with one tap, and the red badge is hard to ignore on day three of a vacation. Screen Time’s Downtime repeats by weekday and blocks everything except an allowed list. It has no “until the 21st”.
Out of Office has a Vacation schedule: a one-off date range with a start and an “Unblocks” time. Pick Teams, Outlook and anything else from work with Apple’s app picker. Until the range ends, they open to a shield, even with Out of Office closed. Everything else on your phone stays open.
Setting up email too? The out of office on iPhone guide covers Outlook, Gmail, Apple Mail and iCloud.
Questions

Yes. Tap your profile picture, tap your status, choose Out of office, turn on Set auto reply, then turn on Select your start and end dates and pick the range.
Does Teams out of office on mobile send an email auto-reply?
Yes. Your Teams out of office message is also sent as your Outlook automatic reply, and the two stay in sync.

The Teams mobile steps don’t include an external option. Use Automatic Replies in Outlook for iPhone, which lets you use a different message for outside senders and syncs back to Teams.
